Yes, installed a fresh 7.8 and did all updates (syspatch, pkg_add -u, fw_update). No luck yet. No traffic from the guest on tap0.

Is the hypervisor a stable openbsd 7.8 box? There's a "feature mismatch" in the virtio net code that recent Linux kernels trip over that's fixed in current. If you upgrade the host to a snapshot it should work.

    Since I upgraded a Arch Linux VM to the latest release with kernel
    6.18
    I see the same thing. I can see ethernet packets with ARP requests on
    the tap interface, but the source MAC is set to all zeros. The VM
    can't
    talk. Alpine 3.23 was also released with a 6.18 kernel.
