The term gratis seems like a good one. However, the GPL states that:

"You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy,
and you may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange
for a fee."

And while I can't think of any instances where money exchanged hands
per the GPL off the top of my head, gratis could be misleading.
How about we say "GPL software" in the stead of "free software"?
That ought to remove any ambiguity so long as people understand
what the GPL is.  Atleast it won't result in misleading people like
"free software" can.
