MITAB users,

I have posted a MITAB 1.6.3 release to the MITAB website a few minutes
ago. This release does not provide any new functionality, it mostly aims
to solve the issues that were introduced by the new spatial index mode
introduced in MITAB 1.6.0 (and that had been causing problems since).

With this release there are currently no known issues related to the
generation of the "optimized spatial index". However, just to be safe,
the optimized spatial index is still disabled by default in this release
and has to be enabled explicitly using the "-o" option of the
tab2tab.exe program (e.g. tab2tab source.mif dest.tab -o).

The complete change log is included at the end of this message, and the
source and binary packages are available on the
http://mitab.maptools.org/ website as usual.

FYI, I am currently working on a set of enhancements that will
constitute a 1.7 release, that includes support for v8.x and 9.x objects
and data types, and.... support for random update (i.e. read/write
mode)... this last one may well justify bumping the version number to
2.0. The next release (1.7 or 2.0) will also have the optimized spatial
index turned on by default again.

Daniel

Version 1.6.3 (2007-10-12)
--------------------------

- Remove static variables that interfere with reentrancy.
   http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/1883

Version 1.6.3-beta2 (2007-09-18)
--------------------------------

- Fixed another issue related to splitting of object blocks with the
optimized spatial index. The compressed coordinate origin values were
not initialized properly before being written (bug 1732)

Version 1.6.3-beta1 (2007-09-14)
--------------------------------

- Fixed the splitting of object blocks with the optimized spatial
index mode that was producing files with misaligned bytes that
   confused MapInfo (bug 1732)
Note that even if this bug is (hopefully) fixed, the optimized spatial
index is still disabled by default in this release and we still use
the quick (i.e. traditional) spatial index mode by default.

- Fixed problem with MIF parser being confused by special attribute
   names (bug 1795)
