thanks for your fixes. I opened a bug ticket here and hope the changes
will be integrated soon.

Well, it is integrated, there is a functioality called
QmitkVolumeVisualization to demonstrate how to get volume rendering. I
just think the VTK volume rendering abilities are limited and the
pressure for us to implement/integrate anything better is not high
enough (yet).
