no, a global reinit performs no registration. I assume you used the context 
menu of the data manager for triggering a global reinit?
A detailed description about what happens in case of a global reinit can be 
found in the datamanager's plugin manual:

To sum it up shortly:
A global reinit initializes the rendering views in a way that all of the data, 
that is loaded into the MITK data storage is displayed completely regarding 
their dimensions and resolution.
A reinit in contrast to that initializes the views so that only the currently 
selected data is displayed completely regarding its dimension and resolution.
