I wouldn't be too sure about that. Xawtv causes raw frame PCI throughput, lavrec only gives MJPEG capture throughput. Xawtv requires far more from the PCI bus than lavrec. Besides, xawtv is PCI->PCI, while lavrec is PCI->mem. It could be that this is part of the problem. Try moving the card back, if you have some time.
