        I was quite surprised to find out that the mailinglist wasn't
        restricted.   I'm more accustomed to lists where one has to
        be subscribed in order to post.

        To me at least it's always seemed a bit rude to post to a list
        of which I am not a member and then say "but cc me since I am
        not on the list".   If a question is important enough to ask
        then for me the price of an answer is to join the community/list.

        No objection here - it would move the list to the state I thought
