My usual goal is to aim for a specific amount of playing time
on a disc. ~90 minutes means a bitrate of approximately 6000Kb/s
or so - the parameters are then adjusted accordingly.
The recent set of discs is different - I only have to fit up to
1 hour maximum per DVD. For this I have set the bitrate to
~8400. With the TMPGEnc matrices the average and peak bitrates
came out to:
Average bit-rate : 8050800 bits/sec
Peak bit-rate : 8345200 bits/sec
and with the KVCD matrices the numbers were a bit lower:
Average bit-rate : 7699600 bits/sec
Peak bit-rate : 8428000 bits/sec
The Philips 724 DVD player had no problem with either of the two
test discs (using DVD+RW media as well as the final DVD-R).
