I've been playing around with mpeg2enc and am EXTREMELY pleased with the the quality of the files it generates. I have a major problem though. I need to submit an mpeg2 file for a uni assignment, rendered from still frames, and the files will not play in Windows Media Player. They play back perfectly with every other player out there (even my dvd player), but if I can't get the files going in Media Player, I'm in a bit of a rutt (and the marker refuses to play the files in another player ...).
Here are the commands I used (there's only about 820 frames):
cat *ppm | ppmtoy4m | mpeg2enc -f 3 -b 2600 -F 5 -a 2 -q 1 -r 32 -4 1 -2 1 -o video.m2v
cat st.wav | mp2enc -o music.mpa
mplex -f 3 -o movie.mpg video.m2v music.mpa
