I know an upscaling method which is (extremely!) slow but yields to really good (my opinion -- at least) results for 2x upscaling... It is not noticable most of the time. I have invented that because I thought I would need it for the deinterlacer (but I do not...)... it does not fit a LP-Surface (cubic or sinc or...) to the data but image-structures, so it really adds resolution which is belivable (but not neccesarily realy...)...
If downscaled to an effective upscaling of 50% it gives a nice antialias-effect, too :) Not sure if I will release that...
