I have the same problem with MFI, it only works in the morning, when it's a
little cooler here in South FL. Sometimes, if I turn on the AC, it works when
the interior cools off. Don't have a problem with the tach though.

Subject: Frozen Tachometer?

I own an 87 GLI that I bought about two years ago. In all of that time
the tachometer and MFI have never worked. It was rather cold this
morning (around three below) and when I started my car the tachometer
worked. I checked to see if the MFI worked as well and it did. I drove
my car about three miles and came to a stop sign - as soon as I hit the
breaks the tachometer fell back down to nothing and the MFI went back to
clock mode. Any ideas why the tachometer and MFI worked today? I drove
the car last winter and they never worked. Was it the cold? How might
I go about finding the problem - I really liked having the tach back.
