Despite the snow storm we had here in Mass., my trusty old Suburban brought me home from work thru the worst of it at 40-45 mph in 4wd (unless 2wd traffic slowed me down), and then back out to drop my daughter off with no qualms or bad behavior. But you can bet that as soon as the roads are clear, the GMC gets parked and the GTI is back, cruising the backroads with panache. Until the next snow or trip to the dump. My SUV is not a status symbol (ol' trusty rusty) - it's strictly utilitarian, but it makes a great parts runner for our VW projects.
