Weeeeellll... sort of.  It's not really legal, since there's not really
any guarantee that the vehicle has everything necessary for US
crash/safety regulations.  However, if the vin was old enough, you could
probably get around most of the regulations.  If anybody ever found out
they might hang you out to dry, but the fact remains that it is still the
same car that was built in the 60's and 70's... only it's brand
new.  


There was some talk on the list about this being done for mini coopers
that people were importing from the UK, using vins that were registered in
the US.  I bet those are tough to find though! Much harder than an old
beetle.
