I feel like a retard when I get behind the wheel of a car with an automatic.
That big, goofy, brake pedal. I don't know what to do with my left foot. I
never know what to do with my right hand...

Volvo is marketing the V/S40 towards a specific market.
Unfortunately, that market doesn't want to be bothered with
shifting.
In fact, most of the US market doesn't want to be bothered with
having three pedals on the floor. We're amongst a growing minority
that chooses manual transmission vehicles for reasons other than
economy.
