I'm not sure again, but what I know is that all factory VWs
I have seen year88 and later all had cats. Those CIS
non-cat 102kW (139bhp) A2 16Vs were built in '86 '87 together
with CIS-E cat versions. Seems in 88 they decided to fit cats on
all GTIs. I dont think there is A3 built without cat. This is what I
can conclude of what I have seen in car places.
