Try retarding it. I had the exact same problem when I first swapped my 2.0L,
and once I adjusted the timing correctly it ran (and still runs) like a bat
out of hell. Now I'm used to it running well and I need to add some more bat
out of hell... If you think the timing belt has jumped a tooth, remove the
belt and set it up again per the Bentley, then set the timing.
