John C. put this very well- "The big difference here is the 5 valve head. Plus, the entire motor, bottom end, head, pistons, rods, crank, etc was designed from the ground up to be a turbo motor."
Here are my other reasons for not going w/ VR6 turbo- -the motor bolts right in (yes stock motor mounts) and uses the same tranny - better weight distribution - easy upgrades - and once again it's meant to be turbo And Here's what would've happened if I had turbo'ed my 16V. -spend $4k to build a nice turbo kit and make at most 220 wheel hp (120k mile motor) -need more power -spend another $5k building a low compression 16V motor and make 300-350 wheel hp - so I've spent $9k for a 16V turbo race motor that is pretty much maxed out With a 1.8T swap I'll spend $9-10K and have an engine that is capable of 300hp on stock internals and will be more reliable and drivable since the engine is in stock form and only has 12k miles on it. Then later if I ever want to make more power I can have the 1.8T motor built and make 450hp or more. _____________ List Sponsor: http://www.netsville.com To remove yourself from this list, send mail to [email protected] with 'unsubscribe a2_16v' in the body of your message See us on the web at http://www.a2-16v.com Visit the 16V Homepage at http://www.gti16v.org
