Actually, I would stick with the long-rod setup because a longer rod gives 
better torque, plus the extra displacement couldnt hurt.  As far as spooling 
quickly, gain back anything lost with the longer rods by lightening 
componets...( flywheel, internals, and my personal favorite - power pullys...)
