I've read and saw the SV clip on "BMW Motorsports" and
what Rat said about hp gels...

However, the engine has been a full stress member in F1 cars
forever. How can they use the "road going" blocks? Are
you sure about that? Iron blocks in F1 where they
go to great lengths to trim every last once?

It was 1500cc and the motors only made in excess of 1200hp (they don't know
exactly because BMW's dyno's only went to 1200hp) in qualifying trim. In
race trim the motors were making well below 1000hp, more in the 600-700hp
range. BMW used factory road going blocks for the F1 cars. In fact they
went out and looked for "weathered" blocks with around 60,000 miles to use.
Speaks to the quality of construction.
