I generally prefer the alulminum parts myself.
Ive never seen one of them crack but have fallen to the plastic parts a
number of times

Subject: Plastic vs. Aluminum

Is there any functional benefit from using the plastic thermostat housing
found in later model engines?

My experience is the plastic is more flexible and prone to cracks and leaks
after prolonged use. VW used cast aluminum in their earlier model engines
which I find more durable.

Any reason why I should not convert my water pump to an earlier aluminum
thermostat housing?
