Doug,

Chad is correct. I have not done this procedure on my 16V as my car is still
in the assembly stage. But I have done this on my other cars and the process
is similar on most CIS cars. (Digifant and Motronic may be different) What
the Bentley instructed for my 8V was first remove injectors and place each
individual injector into seperate containers. This allows you to visably
monitor flow and volume. Then I remove the Fuel Pump relay from the Fuse
Box. It instructs to create a jumper wire with a 15A fuse inline. I then
jumped posts #30 and #87 where the fuel pump relay plugs in. (This may be
different #s on the 16V pump relay)

I then removed the boot above the air box to expose the air plate. I then
turn the key in the ignition to the "ON" position. With the jumper in place,
the fuel pump(s) will run continuously. Then take a magnet and place it on
the exposed air plate. Using the magnet as a handle, slowly lift the plate.
This should open the fuel distributor and fuel should begin flowing to each
individual injector.

With individual injectors in seperate cups, it serves to bleed the fuel
system of any air. Fuel leaks will also become evident if they are present.
Finally, it becomes obvious which injectors were good and which ones were
faulty. It took approximately 5 minutes for all of my injectors to finally
spray equally. That is how long it took to fully purge my system of air.

If none of the above happens, then there is no fuel pressure at the fuel
distributor. You will need to look elsewhere for the problem. If that is the
case, it could be clogged lines and/or fuel filter. It could also be wiring
faults to your fuel pump.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] Fuel Problems

I finally got my motor put back in my car (still haven't found my Bentley
and my 3 year old doesn't know where it is), and I am still having fuel
delivery problems.
I have changed the in-tank fuel pump and when engaging the key, the pump
will run for a few seconds and turn off. Once I start cranking, I am
getting no fuel to the injectors. I have loosened the nuts on the injector
lines to verify I am not getting any fuel to the injectors.
With my Bentley MIA, what component tells the fuel distributor to fire? I
still need to verify that the fuel pump is actually pumping fuel up front,
but I am sure it is. Anybody else have this sort of problem? I have spark
and compression, just no fuel.

Thanks
