I too use NAPA axles, +/- 50 each and once you buy a set you never have to
buy another. gotta love a lifetime warranty. plus IMO a whole axle is easier
to do than just a cv joint (less messy too)

I second that: I've used several NAPA rebuilts; one on each side of the '87,
one on a Jetta 8v, and one on my wife's Plymouth Voyager. They came with
lifetime warranties, and cost far less (exchange) than the dealer wanted for
a single CV joint - which had a 6-month warranty in some cases, NONE in
others! Replacement is far less messy, and takes a lot less time (the same
time to remove & replace as DIY work, but no taking CVs off ends, no
cleaning, no repacking after careful & time-consuming inspecting, no boot
installs & no reassembly onto shafts.) And, if your inspection reveals any
damage to any component other than the boot itself, what is your option?
That's right, go buy rebuilts anyway! But now your car is apart...

I've replaced four total. Two on a rabbit diesel (may it rest in peace),
and two on my old gti (I am still in mourning)
