Something makes me think that you should check the intake rubber boot for leaks. The easy test I guess was to spray cigarette lighter gas where leaks are suspected, I could be wrong tho, but give it a try. Let the engine run, then spry some gas on it and if the rpms change then you have found the leak. But I that visual tests twisting the boot by hands is enough to check the boot. Next thing I would check is fuel pre-pump, which is in the fuel tank and make sure that the pre-pumps filter is clean.. To get to the pre-pump just unscrew the top of fuel tank and pull the whole assembly out. If its all clean then check the pre-pump, you can take it off and run the bucklet test, fill some container with couple litres of fuel and run the pump, if it pumps rich and is not making noises, then the problem is somewhere else. Then there is such fuel pressure adjustment thing right below the ignition distributer, you can not check it w/o equipment, but check the Bentley, maybe they have procedure. Easiest is to try one from your friends car, if thats possible. But again, check the Bentley on this one.
P.S. If anyone has the Bentley in .pdf, I'd be very happy to get it.. Never got my hands on one. ;) -Nils 92 BMW 320i Automatic 89 Golf Rallye, still not running ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 23, 2003 5:20 PM Subject: [a2-16v-list] Jetronic hardstart/rough idle/bucking > This problem is driving me crazy, I hope someone can shed some light on the situation. > > CIS-E Jetronic 1.8L 16V > > Symptoms: > > Hard to start when it's cold. I have to give it gas, and even then it takes 4-5 seconds. If I try to drive the car without letting it sit for 5-10 seconds, it sputters and tries to die, but never does. Seems to start a little better if I prime the fuel pump a few times. > > Idle misfire at all engine/ambient temperatures. Feels like it's missing on 1 cylinder. It happens after I've slowed back down to stop-and-go traffic speeds, and only when I accelerate in first and second gear. > > Recent new parts(within the last year or so): > > Plug wires > Distributor > Cap > Rotor > Ignition Coil > Accumulator > Fuel filter > Injector o-rings > Vacuum lines > 02 Sensor > > The DPR is working and set properly, I recently cleaned and added grounds, and the spark plugs are about a month old. The hard start/misfire was something I just dealt with, but the hesitation and sputtering(which just started happening) pushed me to the point where I need to do something. Thoughts/experiences appreciated. > > -Dave > '88 Jetta GLI 16V (Mine) > '88 Jetta GLI 16V (Hers) > '81 Scirocco S > _______________________________________________ > a2-16v-list mailing list > [email protected] > http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list > For list archives, see listinfo link above. >
