I would have to agree...I think it could definitely be a ground-related issue. Sounds like temperature-related hard starts, crappy power/running, etc, which would definitely be a wiring gremlin.
For kicks, I'd check the ground (or just add a new one), from the ECU (side of head)-Starter-Batt. My $0.02.
