Subject: [WWW.GLIREALM.COM] 1990 GLI....If you work on these yourself, I
NEED YOUR HELP!

My son bought a GLI last March. In May it blew a head gasket and went to
Volkswagen for repair. They were changing rings and bearings as well as the
head work. They put it back together and blew the engine during the test
drive. They put in a used engine with what is supposed to be less miles but
they could never get the car to run well because it ran so rich that when
you turned the key it flooded the engine. They finally gave up and returned
my money and car.

I got the car started by dropping the position of the control plunger in the
fuel distributor. The car still does not rev but it will idle with a slight
pulsing of the engine. The big problem is that it is blowing white smoke,
not steam, and unburnt gas from the exhaust and into the air box. We drained
the oil and it was heavily contaminated with gas. Do you think that the gas
in the oil is from the cylinders filling with gas so many times before
starting, or is there something blown? I am thinking that the white smoke is
because there is so much gas in the exhaust system that it is just burning
that off because after changing the oil in the car there was less smoke. Any
ideas?

I feel bad for my son. he drove this car for 3 - 4 weeks before the blown
head gasket, and every time we think we are making progress it is something
else. I really hope you all can help. Also, does anyone know of where to get
a new wiring harness for the Motronic System?
