Your experience is common. R134 does not get as cold as R12 Freon. R134 also
generates more internal pressure per litre than R12 so your system is filled
with less fluid than compared to an old R12 recharge. I understand you have
to installed it using a pressure guage. If you go by the R12 specs in the
Bentley manual, you will overfill and likely cause a leak.

How did you get your system vacuumed? Did you do that yourself or take it to
a shop? I'd like to know if there is a effective DIY method of vacuuming out
a system.

I've also read that there is an R134 alternative that is R12 compatible. But
I've never seen it anywhere for sale except online. And they would only sell
to certified AC contractors.

BTW: R12 Freon is still available everywhere else in the world for mere
pennies. $1.50 a can in Tijuana.

Subject: Re: [a2-16v-list] 134A A/C conversion?

Tony-
I did the conversion in my old G60 Rado.. I don't think it was as cold
as the original R12, but was still very nice, especially in the Texas
summer! =)
I (personally) didn't change any o-rings.. Just had the R12 vacuum'd,
charged it with the R134a and ensured I added the oil that came in the
kit.. I ran it for 2 yrs with no problems, then sold the car..
