1] My '98 Jetta GLX VR6 has an excessive amount of lift, dive and body roll. I'm sure that the struts are worn out but I don't know what I should do when replacing them. I don't know what the car felt like when new but I think its handling should be similar to my '91 Passat. Does an A3 have a cushier ride than a B3?
I prefer a stiffer sporty ride. The cheapest thing to do is to replace the struts (thinking KYB GR2's). Will I be happy with this or should I get new springs to? If I'm going to do both I could probably go for a coil over for the same price. What should I do? 2] My motor seems to rock pretty hard. Even when coasting and then lightly pressing the throttle I rocks back. It's not that my mounts are worn so much as I think it's poor design. VW likes to put the mounts at the lowest point so the motor topples around on top of them. A Ho#da motor hangs from its mounts and you never feel it flopping around no matter how your driving. My Passat busted several front mounts causing a dent in my hood and a broken cap and rotor. The mount was bad when I bought it, the replacements would pull apart after a few months. I couldn't compare it to the original due to someone's empty promise to make me a poly mount and not returning the original to me. The aftermarket could be to blame, but anybody that looks at the arm attached to a compression style mount subjected to pulling force says "That's stupid". Anyhow I want to put something like a woven strap w/ grommets on the Jetta to prevent this from happening. Anyone know where I can get a limit strap, or have one made? 3] I want to replace my sun dried antenna. I'm happy with the stock but I hear a lot of talk about S2000 antennas and have seen stubby 4" aluminum ones. Has anyone tried these? If your on the Passat list please send a reply directly to me because I only get the e-mails about 3 times a week. thanks James Polivka '98 Jetta GLX '73 Beetle
