Holland, The steering seems to work ok otherwise. The fluid in the reservoir does agitate when I rev the engine. I had someone else indicate that the system may be bleeding itself out and should work out soon. I will check for a pinched line and check the HP tubing at the pump.

Check the metal tubing parts of the PS hoses from where they attach to the rack to where they become rubber hose, as well as the high pressure hose where it attaches to the pump. Since you say you had to beat on the pump in order to adjust the belt tension, I would start with the HP hose at the pump. You may have inadvertently smashed the metal tubing.
