I'm thinking we need to convert it to more of an online club. Some of you may have seen the website I put together a few months ago as a test. It was super easy to do and I am willing to do it again.
A long time ago we had a raffle to raise funds for the list, we might consider doing that again to pay for hosting costs for a website and then setup profiles for members and maybe echo/archive the list messages on (members-only) site. I think the E30 M3 group took a similar approach which I think worked against them, so we could take a less stringent approach by not demanding fees but instead having organized fund raising activities for the few dollars needed for hosting costs. (hell, I bet we can cover the costs with just donations) Some feature ideas: - list archive (with email addresses protected from spammers) - A2 16V wiki (to share the tidbits of great info we know but is being lost in the noise of vortex - links to focused websites like the GTI 16V site which continues to be maintained manually by Charlie Russo - place to post links to parts for sale/wanted (from other sites like Ebay, Vortex, etc) Unfortunately as time goes on A2 16Vs become more and more a niche, but that does not mean it is not worth preserving! Just thinking outloud, -Larry 91 GTI 16V -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Les Noriel Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 10:52 AM To: Matthew Yip; [email protected] Subject: Re: [a2-16v-list] Fw: a2-16v list back online Chad's comments struck a chord with me because I'm in exactly the same situation. Two projects- one a corrado, the other an A2 16V that have been sitting in the garage for years. It's been so long that I've forgotten where I had left off (Or where my tools have gone). Recently I posted on the Corrado list how I've begun cleaning the garage and in the process I've discovered several boxes of new parts eagerly awaiting installation. By default, I've made progress simply by installing the part instead of stowing them neatly back onto a shelf. Sometimes, I have to examine closely because I'd forgotten which parts belong to which car! Both cars share many parts and I've upgraded much of the 16V with the Corrado equivalents. Gas prices have increased my interest in driving the A2 again. Matthew's assessment of the Vortex are entertaining and accurate. My experiences there have been similar. I once naively jumped into a misguided discussion of "LSD" thinking I could enlighten them on the topic only to discover they were discussing the installation of "Lamborghini Style Doors" I was happily surprised to see the 16V list come back to life. I had searched for it a few months back not knowing if I had simply lost the URL when I rebuilt my computer, or if it had truly retired. Although, not much traffic has been generated these past few years, I'm still glad its here. -Les -----Original Message----- >From: Matthew Yip <[email protected]> >Sent: Jul 11, 2010 7:38 PM >To: [email protected] >Subject: [a2-16v-list] Fw: a2-16v list back online > >Crap - I'm an idiot and can't seem to master email anymore... > > > >----- Forwarded Message ---- >> From: Matthew Yip <[email protected]> >> To: Eric Hauptmann <[email protected]> >> Sent: Sun, July 11, 2010 10:35:17 PM >> Subject: Re: [a2-16v-list] a2-16v list back online >> >> WOW - back from the dead!!! >> >> It's great to hear from everyone and to know that all is going well. >>Chad - thanks for resurrecting the list!!!
