Woah, blast from the past.

I miss this list. Forums are awful. It's impossible to keep up with them without making it a lifestyle. With lists, you read everything that was going on and actually learned something.

My last 16v went away in 2004, last Mk2 in '06. I was planning on another, but by the time I had room all the local 16v's were in sorry shape or $6K. Now it's a Passat, an E34 535i and a Miata.

The Miata reminds me of what was so great about Mk2's. I was looking for an E36 M3 or 951, but there was nothing quite right at the time. While I was waiting, I found a cheap 1990 Miata with 53K miles on it and figured it'd be fun until I found a clean BMW or Porsche. But then I got used to driving it pretty much full-bore *all the time* and fast cars started feeling slow. Even the Passat feels hemmed in by speed limits and traffic...I find myself doing 25 mph over the limit all the time just to get some sensation of speed. I'm love my 116 hp hamster wheel of fury.

P.S. I stay subscribed to this list on the off case I get the chance to tell someone to replace their injector O-rings.

Chad's comments struck a chord with me because I'm in exactly the same situation. Two projects- one a corrado, the other an A2 16V that have been sitting in the garage for years.

It's been so long that I've forgotten where I had left off (Or where my tools have gone). Recently I posted on the Corrado list how I've begun cleaning the garage and in the process I've discovered several boxes of new parts eagerly awaiting installation. By default, I've made progress simply by installing the part instead of stowing them neatly back onto a shelf. Sometimes, I have to examine closely because I'd forgotten which parts belong to which car! Both cars share many parts and I've upgraded much of the 16V with the Corrado equivalents. Gas prices have increased my interest in driving the A2 again.

Matthew's assessment of the Vortex are entertaining and accurate. My experiences there have been similar. I once naively jumped into a misguided discussion of "LSD" thinking I could enlighten them on the topic only to discover they were discussing the installation of "Lamborghini Style Doors"

I was happily surprised to see the 16V list come back to life. I had searched for it a few months back not knowing if I had simply lost the URL when I rebuilt my computer, or if it had truly retired.

Although, not much traffic has been generated these past few years, I'm still glad its here.

WOW - back from the dead!!!

It's great to hear from everyone and to know that all is going well. Chad - thanks for resurrecting the list!!! I've been on VWVortex for quite a while
now

and find that it's frustrating to say the least. Too many "internet
mechanics"

who know everything because they've owned an A2 for a few weeks or people who

have no clue BUT have an ego that can't let them admit to being wrong. These

private forums are GREAT - the knowledge base is great and the level of dialog

is significantly above "Dude, you don't know anything - I've been racing my
GTi

with stretched 16s for 2 months so I know everything". I'm on a few Yahoo groups and they're OK - the good news is that they can be moderated to keep
the

subscribers the same - the only catch is that Yahoo sometimes likes to screw
with the privacy and advertising settings.

I'm STILL driving A2s - still racing the General Li and now driving an '89 16v

GTi for the past 3 years as my commuter car. I resisted the urge to modify it

for 2 years b/c it arrived "block stock". Then the exhaust failed and everything went downhill from there - Borla muffler, Neuspeed race springs, Bilstein Sports, stress bars front and rear. I get the strangest looks from people who think that I should be some pimple-faced teenager driving his
"racecar, yo".

Trying to post my pic again. I really will be sad if/when the A2 leaves
the

family.

Hey Larry, no problem. I think people have really moved away from
mailing
lists like these and on to forums such as vwvortex. The server is used

for
other purposes so it is no extra burden to me. The list software running

on
the server is getting quite old and I haven't made any updates in a long time. However, I am not opposed to moving this list elsewhere, but I
don't
think it will be of much value now with the traffic way down. I could
help
out by providing the list of all member email addresses that were
imported
long ago when I took this list over.

 take care. Chad

Chad,

Thanks for keeping this list running for 15+ years. Let me know if

you
want help with the list and ever want to consider moving it to a
service
like Google Groups or Yahoo! groups so that the burden of managing and hosting the site can be shared and moved onto these large companies.

My 91 GTI 16V has also been sitting for some years at my parent's
house.
They keep asking me why I still keep it around. I'm sure like most on

this
list, they just don't understand the madness.

I know there isn't much demand for this a2 16v list now, but wanted to

let
you all know it is back online. It has been down since September last

year
and was finally back on a few weeks ago. I moved to a different house
a
couple years ago and power outages caused a bit of trouble. I finally

got
a
ups so it didn't need constant attention.

I still have my 16v turbo but don't really drive it. Need to rebuild
the
bottom end to stop a slight oil leak. For those interested here is an

old
link from the megasquirt efi forum I came across a few days ago -

http://www.msruns.com/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=22406

I bought a brand new 2009 ford focus 5 spd for barely over $8k (tax,
tag,
title, everything) last year during the cash for clunkers deal :) I
got
the
maximum discount for some busted up old 1990 v6 volvo that I couldn't
even
dump for $200. Now I need to find some motivation to work on my vw
16v
before it sits for 10+ years as my corrado has.
