I had a set of UR pulleys myself but sold them with my 2.0l Slorocco - big mistake since the pimple-faced kid who bought it (apparently without Mommy's permission) promptly trashed the car. The last I heard, Mommy was threatening legal action against the shop where I met the kid - the kid (18 yrs old) had just sold his Five-Point Slo and had money to burn. Apparently Mommy didn't want Junior to spend that money BUT Junior was of legal age and did it anyways. She called the shop and screamed at them for allowing her idiot son to spend money. Good thing I never met Mommy nor saw Junior again - they're prime examples of parents who do nothing for/with their kids but want to control everything in their lives.
Back OT - I had someone on the VW Autox list who would make me some aluminum pulleys for around $125/ea. I'll see what gruvenparts has to offer - if they're one of those VW Whortex "suppliers", I'll have to think twice about it since my opinion of the average VW Whortex supplier is about the same as the local Advanced Auto. Help me out you engineering wizards - the process of making an underdrive pulley would be to INCREASE the size of the crank pulley? Or would it be better to retain the same crank pulley size but reduce weight and increase the size of the accessory drive pulleys? In any case, if anyone has a spare OE pulley, I'd like to get the blue GTi back on the road - I may have one but I know it's buried...somewhere in a galaxy far, far away. Ron - for all I know, my crank pulleys may be buried in your barn just like 90% of the stuff that I have that I can't find. I KNOW I own it but where it's gone is a mystery. On a positive note - I've been looking for a New South 3-gauge panel that my buddy, Brian, loaned to me. It didn't work for my "early" dashboard so I picked up the older style plastic version. I put it away to ensure that it didn't get lost or beat up. Last week, he asked for it and, well, dementia kicked in big-time and I drew a blank on the location. Last night as I was rummaging around the shop, swapping a Westmoreland front end (suddenly and surprisingly valuable) for an Aero front end, I opened one of my many bins and voila, the long-lost 3-gauge cluster... Getting old and forgetful really sucks...Who are you people again? Why am I typing this to you?
