For Associated Research Staff Member(ARSM) positions, candidates must have a MS degree in CS/CE with solid software development skills and experience. Candidates must be proactive in developing innovative technologies and have a "can-do" attitude. The group engages in foundational as well as applied research in the following areas: - Autonomic computing - Distributed systems and networking - Next generation data center - IP network and service management - Mobile network management - Reliability, dependability and security - QoS/QoE management and analysis - Data mining and statistical learning - Software reliability and testing Expert-level skills in one or more of the above areas are required. Knowledge of information theory, signal processing, system and control theory is a plus. For RSM consideration, please forward your resume and a research statement to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a reference "ASDS-RSM" in the subject line. For ARSM positions, pls. include "ASDS-ARSM" in the subject line. http://www.nec-labs.com/careers/careers-p21.shtml ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Nov 12, 2007 From: Hiroshi Mamitsuka <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Post-Doctoral Position in Bioinformatics Post-Doctoral Position in Bioinformatics Kyoto University, Japan A post-doctoral position is available at Pathway Engineering Laboratory of the Bioinformatics Center at Kyoto University. This laboratory has developed unique, cutting-edge data mining/machine learning techniques for complex data in real world applications, particularly molecular biology. A publication list of the laboratory is at http://www.bic.kyoto-u.ac.jp /pathway/publications.html. Along this line, the laboratory seeks a candidate who will be engaged in research on mining new knowledge from multiple data sources in biology, especially those related with genes and small chemical compounds. The candidate should have a Ph.D. and solid technical experience in a field in computer science or a similar quantitative area of study, such as machine learning, data mining, statistics, algorithmics, combinatorics, and numerical computation. The applicant should be enthusiastic and energetic in doing new research in bioinformatics and should have sufficient programming skills in C, C++ or Java. The position is for one year but renewable by mutual agreement, until as late as September 2010. Kyoto University's Bioinformatics Center is situated 15 km south of downtown Kyoto and 40 km north of the center of Nara, and is thus conveniently located near Japan's two most famous historical cities. The location is ideal to both enjoy Japan's traditional beauty and to devote yourself to research in bioinformatics. Please send your detailed curriculum vitae (including list of publications, brief summary of your past work, and at least three references) to: Dr. Hiroshi Mamitsuka Bioinformatics Center Kyoto University Email: mami at kuicr.kyoto-u.ac.jp ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Nov 5, 2007 From: Christof Monz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: PhD Position in Statistical Machine Translation, London The Department of Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London has a fully funded PhD position in the area of Statistical Machine Translation. The PhD position is in the MataHari project (Machine Translation with Harvested Internet Resources) which focuses on utilizing Internet resources to learn statistical translation models for translating from a number of foreign languages into English.
