I use Debian and all you need to do is install apt-cron
and occasionally run apt-get update. Just one command!
which can be made to run from your menu.
On unstable you do get the occasional mess up if you use
non standard packages. But you have to try hard to mess up your system
critically.
Now all that is missing is for the GUI front end of the apt system
(synaptic) to become actually usable! :-)
And this is Debian not one of th fancy distros!
anyways apt is just so coool! I would not be surprised if MS
adopted themselves!
