This thread brings back memories.
I agree if the site is to be maintained static HTML is the way to go.
Keeping a CMS like Drupal current and secure is such a pain in the ass
that it only worth the effort if you have more than a half dozen active
contributors. This is not likely to happen at MLUG. In general Linux
User Groups have lost a lot of it relevance. I think this is due to the
fact the OS has matured so much we do not have to support each other
nearly as much anymore. Also it is hard to maintain that evangelical
zeal in light of the fact Linux is so ubiquitous these days. Still it
would be sad to see MLUG disappear.
I'm still having a gas using Linux, mostly Ubuntu Studio for making
noise(Jack rules!)*. I would be happy to attend/host a get together with
talks on using Linux for music production. There are many topics I would
like to explore including: Muse Score, Audacity, Ardour, LMMS, Midi
capture etc. My LTSP lab is gone but my Linux powered home studio has grown.

The original site was in Zope/Python, the next iteration was Vim and
CVS, and now Drupal/PHP.
I can whip something on GitHub to have people get involved.
Give me a couple of hours

Wait.. what... we have a website? :) lol.
Here is a thought... only because I am feeling nostalgic today.
Keep the page up, we put the story of MLUG, where it came from,
people involved, history, some pictures of the meetings in Alan's
house, etc... And where to find these resources today. Links to
the linkedin group, the mailing list, etc...
(Make sure we build the page in vim) :)
Just a thought.

The domain itself costs maybe $20-$25 per year depending on
the registrar, Jer is using GoDaddy right now (ew!)
That is pretty much the only cost, between the group members,
I am sure hosting can be done for free, many of us have our
own machines and MLUG does not take that much space or bandwidth.
The mailing list is hosted with koumbit.org
<http://koumbit.org>, and we use a subdomain of MLUG for it,
again, that is free (Thanks Koumbit)
Historically, the site was hosted by Alan T., then myself,
then Jer. The mailing list was hosted by Jimmy A. at one
point, I honestly don't recall if I was hosting it at one
point or not.
(Which reminds me, I have the admin password for the mailing
list, I don't know if anyone is monitoring the pending requests)
The point is, beyond the domain cost, there is nothing. But
Jer's point is: What are we doing with this?
I transferred the domain to Jer as well as the ownership of
the LinkedIn group because I am simply not active anymore, and
because I left Montreal in 2009 and I don't feel it was
appropriate for me to still be the "owner" while I don't even
live there anymore.
This group was started in 2000 by a group of people that are
no longer active, the whole LUG concept has declined recently,
and there are thousands of sites that do the same thing,
nobody is "advocating" Linux, we already won :)
Hope this helps

How much does it cost to keep it going?
How much storage does it need?
