Maybe someone has already suggested it (I haven't checked all this
thread), but have you tried doing everything as administrator?

(I'm assuming you have Windows, because I saw a "Program Files" folder
mentioned somewhere)

>From memory, there are two times when you would do this:

1)  At installation. I right-clicked on "mnemosyne-1.2.1-setup.exe",
and selected "Run as administrator"

2)  For normal use, I right-click on the desktop icon, then select
"Run as administrator"

If you haven't done any of these operations, then it might be a good
idea to uninstall, then re-install, doing everything as administrator.

New subject:  I see mention of the "attrib" command. If you're in
Windows, then you can change attributes using right-click > Properties
> General tab

You can then use the "Security" tab to verify what you have done.
