Hi all,

I just want to remind everybody that although the "Don't keep activities" option has caused us much frustration, it really is a GOOD option. All of us should try to run with it turned on occasionally and fix any bugs that are uncovered as a result.

The reason for this is that "Don't keep activities" forces Android to destroy activities when you leave them, which is something that will happen even if you don't set the option. The only difference is that it happens every time instead of sporadically. For us this is a huge advantage because it turns intermittent problems into consistently reproducible ones, and saves us more headache in the long run with trying to track down other intermittent issues that are caused by Android closing background activities.

So, please try to run with it on once in a while and make sure there are no serious issues. I'm glad that many of our QA people run with it enabled because it definitely catches problems. And yes, the experience of running with it on is still painful because your tabs often have to reload, but that just means we should be faster at reloading tabs!

Thanks,
kats
