<< American Beauty is the best movie of the year. Well, duh. >>
i would tend to disagree with this statement. i found American Beauty to
be the hollywood version of a much better movie, namely Happiness. Happiness
took risks in its portrayal of suburbia. meanwhile American Beauty feed us
the
same stereotypes and was ohsocontrived. i mean the father kissing kevin
spacey, oh all military uptight assholes secretly have homosexual
tendancies...
i did like some parts. such as the last monologue about things being
beautiful.
i think seeing it in the theaters when it first came out might have ruined it
some
for me. people were just laughing at things that i didn't find at all
amusing. like
when the mother (annette bening) does not make the sale and is furious at
herself,
to the point where she hurts herself, people laughed. i found nothing funny
about this scene; it fact it seemed tragic to me. perhaps thats just because
i've felt as she does in that moment. oh well.
my favorite movies of the year: (in no particular order)
happiness
run lola run
buena vista social club
the iron giant
movies that should have been better but were ok:
boys dont cry
american beauty
twin falls, idaho
what i hated:
blair witch project
yeah.
