I'm trying to compile modperl-2.0_20050305233800 with Apache 2.0.47 on OS X.2.8
and I'm getting at the beginning of `make test':

---------------------------------------------------------------

waiting 120 seconds for server to start: .Syntax error on line 2164 of
/Users/phil/Desktop/modperl-2.0/t/conf/httpd.conf:
<Perl> directive missing closing '>'
.........................................................................................................................
waiting 120 seconds for server to start: not ok
[ error] giving up after 121 secs. If you think that your system
is slow or overloaded try again with a longer timeout value.
by setting the environment variable APACHE_TEST_STARTUP_TIMEOUT
to a high value (e.g. 420) and repeat the last command.

[ error] server failed to start! (t/logs/error_log wasn't created, start the
server in the debug mode)
+--------------------------------------------------------+
| Please file a bug report: http://perl.apache.org/bugs/ |
+--------------------------------------------------------+
make: *** [run_tests] Error 1

----------------------------------------------------------------

I've set a longer time-out value, used Apache::Test to start the server
successfully and read all the docs and material I can find but am stuck.

FYI I'm using Perl 5.8.6 and my makefile path is:

/usr/local/bin/perl Makefile.PL MP_APXS=/Library/Apache2/bin/apxs

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Regards,

    Phil.
