That's exactly the kind of horror story that makes me very leery of compiling
from source.  Doing it "right" requires a level of expertise and ongoing focus
that I simply don't have and can't afford to gain or maintain.

I was aware of backports.org, but haven't checked there lately.  A current
Apache2/ current ModPerl2 package for Debian 3.1 stable would be a dream come
true!  :-)
