I was just reading about this - very disturbing. None other than Jimmy 
Saville started the whole DJ idea by cobbling together a record-player and 
some 78s to play at an Otley working men's club indeed, in 1943, then 
introduced the first two turntable system somewhere around 1947-49. Without 
him, there would be no Oakenfold, Weatherall or Fat Boy Slim. Scary stuff...
