Dominic is making a good point here.
However - the sad fact is that the 'scene' *is* split to some extent. There
are those just into 'early mod' and those just into 'swinging 60s mod'.
In London the club scene unfortunately (for me!) seems biased in favour of
the latter.
There are those 'true' modernists (like myself) who will embrace music of
any era as long as it is GOOD! (Especially if it is good to dance to...)
However - I personally believe black R'n'B to be far superior to psyche -
especially when it comes to the dancefloor.
Instead of advocating a 'return to early mod values' however - I am simply
stating my musical opinion: I like R'n'B not because I consider it more
'mod' but because I think it's simply better!! And yes... I suppose that
*does* make it more 'mod' - the reason however not being historical........

In fact I would like to see the historical elements wiped out completely -
we need clubs that will play good dance music of any and every era (though I
see this consisting of 50s-early 60s R'n'B/soul/jazz to a large extent)
Modernism is not about being 'into' the 60s!
So many self-proclaimed mods are just bloody retro freaks!!!!

Agreed.
However it's valid to moan about this lack of confidence!!!
It's so wide-spread - and so FRUSTRATING.
Even on the mod scene.

If I didn't dance to unfamiliar tunes I'd never leave my seat!!!

Enough of the rant.......
