from Road & Track Online:

While BMW of North America is still trying to decide if it will sell
the Mini in the U.S., development of the not-so-miniature car continues at
full speed. The new Mini will arrive in late 2000, powered by a 1.4- or a
1.6-liter inline-4 built at the BMW/DaimlerChrysler plant in Brazil. A Mini
Cooper S is also said to be under consideration, powered by a supercharged
version of the 1.6-liter mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. In England the
Mini will be sold at Rover dealerships, while in Europe and Japan it will
be sold at BMW and/or Rover stores. Would this new Mini succeed in the
U.S.? --Andrew Bornhop

This is actually a somewhat old blurb from Road & Track online
