Suggestion: While I am a *long* time proponent of the Luv N Haight label,
avoid the "Sweetback" CD. It's pretty weak; and though I haven't yet heard
them, I can almost go so far as to guarantee that the material of Boogaloo
Joe Jones on the Jazz Dance Classics compilations are what you'd rather
buy. "Sweetback" is from 1975, and extremely watered down MOR stuff. Luv
N Haight should've known better. That one CD pretty effectively drove up
the price of his other albums though. "Introducing the Psychedelic Soul
Jazz Guitar of Joe Jones" will cost you an arm and a leg from any dealer
paying the slightest amount of attention these days.

I don't know this one, but I can vouch for his Prestige material through
1970, and would assume his 1971 LP on Prestige is also pretty good.
Jones is a fun guitarist who certainly did record his share of cool tunes.
He had a great sound. His problem, however, is a penchant for recording
bland covers. No complaints with the majority of his originals though.
Obviously, you can't really top Grant Green. But I would also look into
the first two or three George Benson LP's and Kenny Burrell's Blue Note
LP's (His Cadet LP's are so close...but suffer from the same problem as
Jones). Oh yeah, Wes Montgomery (watch some of those later Verve albums
though).
