Seth you make a good argument... Although I disagree with your gas
price assessment.

Natalie, sorry I generalized so much. In a way that was kind of the
point of my post. Lets just say this.. "Nothing of merit has ever
come from white American culture".. Now that's a generalization if I
have every heard one. As you did with my post.. I generalized right
back on his! Its very hard not to take the defensive when someone is
generalizing you as "good for nothing".

I think for the most part we are just stepping up to the idiot soap
box with this one. There are way too many nationalistic feelings
overall...and way too much ignorance on both the American and UK side
of this discussion. For one.. neither of us will ever be happy with
the other's assessment of their culture because it is almost
impossible to ever get a proper assessment of a culture unless you
have lived in it (otherwise its all preconceived notion). Not to
mention we are all attached in some way to our birth land.. its like
asking someone to assess your mother with out hurting your feelings..
because any bad traits will always directly reflect on you..

On the other hand you can't really point a finger at just one thing
that represents "white American male culture" because most white
American males are from many different cultures.. English, Irish,
German, Italian, Mexican, French, and Scandanavian cultures settled
in different regions in the United States. Now if you figure a
culture is what makes a person a Brit or an American you can't really
say that i was brought up American by anyway. You can't compare my
upbringing (German American) to a some of my friends in Boston
(British American).. We had completely different upbringings. Just
because part of my family decided in the 1800's to not go to war and
leave Germany.. Doesn't mean that my family became anymore less
German (well until WW2).. parts of the German culture were passed
down through the last 2 generations. While we all consider ourselves
American because we live here.. we still have a huge tie to our
homeland in Germany which we honor through the food my family eats,
the holiday traditions,.. gosh to the organized religion my family
has always been apart of. You will see the same things when you go
the east coast where the people are from Irish and English decent.

I guess my point is here..is this is an absolutely dumb argument
because all any of us really have to go on is preconceived notions
and some vacations we all took.

But as caution (I should take this advice also.. ;) we should maybe
shy from making complete generalizations and assumptions on topics as
touchy as this because I have to admit.. I was bit pissed when 1
person summed up all of America as "Useless".. in one sentence.. at
that.. I took it a but personally because I don't feel that I am
useless. I know I have done my little part to change the world... as
has many Americans.. But we can never find a Brit to recognize it.

John
