Bek you have outdone yourself here:
Shit fashion sense? Easily one of the top best dressed men in Britain, name
a single American male with more style than Weller, or one of your Mod
friends who outdoes him and I'll gladly leave this list in shame.
Shit hair? Ermm yeah OK, right, as opposed to the skinhead, 80's wedge or
Brian Jones moptop favoured by the 'cool' mods?
5. never once apologized for abominations like "Wildwood"? You're a loony
woman!
6. has been severely overrated, drooled over, and paid for by
mostly
British, mostly mod/ex-mod, mostly pathetic music journalists,
worshippers
and fans
Yeah, even the people who no longer like his music have to love him for his
fashion sense and sensibilities, I'm glad you disagree.
Rick and Bruce - that is definitely a wind-up.
Having seen him live twice in the last month I have to fall in to the
"fawning British journo" category. Now, who do your American journo's fawn
over? A woman with an afro who sounds like Donald fucking Duck?
(FYI most Brit music magazines slate everything he does - because it's not
cool to do otherwise basically)

I've got to agree with Dan. Since breaking up the Jam, Paul Weller
has:
1. had shit fashion sense
2. had shittier hair
3. made music suitable for light-rock milquetoast office radio and
not much
else
4. collaborated with OCS which, in my opinion, almost wiped his
past slate
of any "cred" clean in one swipe
5. never once apologized for abominations like "Wildwood"
6. has been severely overrated, drooled over, and paid for by
mostly
British, mostly mod/ex-mod, mostly pathetic music journalists,
worshippers
and fans
7. has been an asshole to poor old Bruce and and Rick, the real
backbone of
his success
8. given innumerable piss-weak, gloss-coated, shallow interviews
laced with
denial of all of the above
In short, I think Paul Weller has become a complete joke. Sure, I'm
a Jam
fan, but he should have hung it up in '83, at least. I'm completely
baffled
as to why anyone would think his contemporary work and persona has
any
connotation or connection to mod culture these days. And that's not
even
really the point; his solo work sucks, period, regardless of what
cultural
group has duped itself into thinking it's supposed to like it, or
vice
versa. He and Sting both need join Santana on tour where they
belong or
retire and get their knighthood so they can have tea at Paul
McCartney's
with Bob Geldof while Tom Jones teaches them all how to really sing!
