Because, unfortunately, foreigners are the only ones that have been forced
to decipher our cryptic language -- we've always taken it on faith. My
girlfriend is from India, has lived in Turkey and corrects my English
constantly. I think this deference of form originates in the American
swagger, or as a former boss of mine at the famous Coliseum Bookstore in New
York like to put, "the glory of the Empire is making us idiots."

A solid question... perhaps one can make a case that he's only a reaction to
it (lack of style, coherence, and taste -- all venerable traits of the best
among us). Why, I ask, must we be so limited in what information we share?
I believe this was Jani's point. I joined this list to finally have a
connection to a scene that is pretty inaccessible from my south side of
Chicago residence. What I encounter instead is a total obliteration of an
individual that may or may not be mentally ill because he desires Union Jack
seatcovers for his shitty car, and evasiveness when a topic is brought up
that may provide some interest (i.e. 20th Century conceptions of art, new
and upcoming bands). I'm not saying anybody should take the gloves off, I'm
asking for more in the ring. In the meantime, I may follow John Stafford's
(did I get that right?) and check out some other lists. Jesus H. Christ, if
one gets burned on a list, one could at least have the decency to fire back
a witticism instead of a pathetic defense -- it's only an electronic
message, one must be extremely lonely and sensitive if it cuts the frozen
sea inside one. I'll stop now, sorry all.
