Define "sub domains"  If this means foo1.domain.com,
foo2.domain.com, foo3.domain.com where "domain.com" is
constant then it is possible.  All three (foo1, foo2, foo3)
must have the same ip address.  I do this with a wildcart
cert from Thawte.com

I said this is possible, it may not be a "good thing"
because IE officially does not support wildcard certs.  I
will say that IE 4 and 5 work fine with wildcard certs, but
who knows what will happen tomorrow.
