I've been experiencing similar problems as well. But one of the things
I tried in order to fix it was to upgrade from 0.9.4 to 0.9.5 -- so it
was happening in 0.9.4, too (at least for me).

The mod_ssl version jumps for me went from 2.4.8 -> 2.6.0 -> 2.6.1 ->
2.6.2. I haven't gotten any reports of problems from servers running
2.4.8/0.9.4, but have with 2.6.*/0.9.[45]
