The *copyright* and *license* on RSAREF is not affected by the patent
expiration.  If you want an implementation, use the code that is in
OpenSSL itself.

Define "some authority." :)  If you search cypherpunks archives (I don't
know where they are these days) various members of the bar have said
so.  I don't know if that's good enough.  If you want RSADSI to issue an
official statement... while, I wouldn't hold my breath.  They wouldn't
lie, of course, but you're unlikely to get anything.

Well hell.  It's a patent.  Patents expire and you can then use the
technology.

Figure out what kind of authority you need, hire a lawyer to get you the
assurance you want.
