I agree with notion and I think this is one of the main reasons to what I am trying to achive with having lot of CPAN modules in Debian/Fedora/etc... The problem is that while the Linux distribution maintainers advocate that everything should be installed via their own package management system we aka. "The Perl Community" advocate the use of CPAN(PLUS)?. One of the reasons is that in almost any application you write you'll use modules that are not in the package management system. So until we solve that we have to teach our users how to install modules using CPAN. Even after we manage to get 50% of CPAN in Debian or Fedora it will take ages till most of the places start to use these distributions and these uncaring module authors keep releasing all kinds of useful modules that others start using in various application so people will need to install them using CPAN(+-). I am sure this will be a difficult catch-up game. So I am not sure. There are lots of system administrators who need to install applications that rely on modules from CPAN. Many of those applications are not in the Linux (or whatever else) distro they happen to use so they need to install all those CPAN modules. I don't expect any of them to learn how to install CPAN modules and the CPAN ecosystem. (OK, maybe I should by I know the majority does not have the interest or time) Should the applications come with all the dependencies? There are a few examples such as Krang and Smolder. Should the applications come in binary format (.deb, .rpm)? This will be to a restricted number of platforms as the developers don't have the expertise or the hardware or the time to build all the versions. And then we loose all the nice test reports... regards Gabor -- Gabor Szabo http://szabgab.com/blog.html Test Automation Tips http://szabgab.com/test_automation_tips.html
